Dr. Spyros Beltaos is a Research Scientist at the National Water Research Institute of Environment Canada in Burlington, Ontario, where he is leading research programs on river ice processes. During his many years of professional experience, the editor has been active in various aspects of freshwater ice, including river ice breakup and jamming, mixing and dispersion of contaminants in ice covered rivers, and the load bearing capacity of floating ice covers. In addition to his research work, Dr. Beltaos provides advice to various Canadian and foreign agencies concerned with river ice problems such as ice jam forecasting, risk assessment and mitigation, or environmental impact of river structures.
Dr. Beltaos has authored over 130 technical papers and taught short courses on river ice topics. He is a Fellow of the Canadian Society of Civil Engineering and serves on several national and international committees.
